30 taco trucks in 30 days

IMG_0986

Hello my friends. I will be updating the blog every day during the month of September with a new taco truck review. So there's not any confusion, I won't be eating from a taco truck every day. Some days I may hit up more than one, some days will be an off day. As food bloggers will attest to the hardest part about food blogging is actually the blogging, not the eating. Hey maybe I will eat from a taco truck everyday! who knows! But since there is no way for you the reader to know there is no point to suggest such a thing.

I am imposing three rules on myself.

1)I must have the review posted each day before midnight(duh).

2)I must order at least 3 tacos from a each truck.

3)I cannot review a taco truck that I have already reviewed.

So send me your taco truck tips!(or leave a comment here). If you see a taco truck that I haven't reviewed let me know it's location. I'm going to need your help with this my fellow taco hounds. If I fail I will be the laughing stock of the food blogging community. But Bandini you say, you already are. Haha! Thanks a lot! The last thing I need is to have my confidence shaken on the eve of my taco journey. Hey, what the hell am I doing still sitting here? I better go get some tacos!

A very incomplete list of taco trucks I've been to in LA. http://bit.ly/9rkGib

The green is at least manageable. There's sure to be a lot of overlap, but I'm sure you've missed some that are here.

  5. farley,

thanks for the list. Several of those I was unaware of. I like your commentary - DOWNSIDE: Almost everything. haha!

    eharmonica,

are they daytime trucks? I remember there being a daytime mariscos truck at the location.

    anthony,

good call on El Paisano . I need to try them.

    merut,

  7. Does this exclude taco stands?

Look for the Mariscos 4 Vientos truck on Olympic in the Eastside. Can't remember the cross-streets. They do have a brick-and-mortar location on Olympic and Lorena. But the truck is nearby. Hardshell shrimp tacos... mmm.

  8. plantedia is right about the plethora of taco stands/trucks located off Eagle Rock Blvd and Verdugo Rd from Cypress Park through Eagle Rock. However, just South of all that is where I have found my favorites. 1) In my humble opinion the best Al Pastor in town is served at the intersection of W. Ave 26 and Humboldt St in the city of Lincoln Heights. The owners set up their stand in a parking lot they rent out to avoid any static from the authorities. The lines have been getting longer so I figure the word must be getting around. The Buche is also delicious. 2) Another spot worth mentioning is a taco truck down the street, tucked away at the corner of W. Ave 27 and McClure St about a block away from Cypress Rec Center. It's my first choice for Suadero and the lines are consistent so they must be doing something right. Let me know your thoughts...enjoy!

  10. Some Westside taco trucks, besides the well-known ones (Oaxaquena on Lincoln, etc.):

--there's a taco trailer, Ruben's Tacos, that parks on SM Blvd near Westgate at night

--Juquila taco truck, on Bundy around Nebraska. I assume it's related to the Oaxacan restaurant Juquila on SM Blvd.

--Valentino's truck, on Lincoln in the Smart & Final parking lot. I see you reviewed this a while back...wonder if it has improved at all.

  11. The BEST and most reasonable taco truck i've been to is in east LA on Kern st. at the corner of Whittier. They get their tortillas from the tortilla place across the street. YUM!! I want some now!

  12. Oh Great Taco King, I do not think you have been but just would like to pass this on. 2 young gentlemen making asada, chorizo and pollo. The grill over flame and chop to order! Good condiments and some interesting twists, The Vampiro, a small quesadilla with a subtle garlic and meat of your choice, very good, I had to have 2. The pollo was stellar and the chorizo good. They had fresh grilled onions & jalapenos and marinated onions. They had 4 salsas, pico de gallo, a mild, a hot and a spicy, they also had an avocado sauce. I wish they did al pastor and a horchata but I will be going back for the asada! Please try them out.
    Via con Taco amigo!
