ReplyDeleteevery Saturday and Sunday night, around 6 or 7, a little makeshift taco table sets up in front of the Uno Market on Figueroa at Springdale in Highland Park...I was driving past tonight, this drizzly, chilly night, and there was a line of a dozen or so waiting for their taco fix...every time I've driven past, there's been a small crowd, but I figured that if people are braving the elements, this place had to be something special.
AWESOME asada, a nice looking chorizo that another customer recommended, and probably a few other meats I'm just not cut out for (you know, the lengua and sesos-type stuff). no carnitas, though. but damn, was that asada fine--charcoal-grilled right in front of your very eyes. the salsa roja's great, too, and they even had fresh cucumbers, always the sign of a good place.
this is the only place I've ever seen in Highland Park, a place rich in great Mexican food, that reliably has that many people waiting on line. now I know why! :)
...oops...that's Figueroa and Springvale, not Springdale...
ReplyDeletesounds great Anna
ReplyDeletethere are so many good eats in highland park.
I've always been fascinated by highland park. When I was younger it was a much rougher neighborhood and driving on the 110 along that stretch to pasadena for some reason we were always scared to get off in highland park.
